Off topic for a sec: Photoshop CS2 and the Bridge

I'm (finally) excited by Adobe Camera Raw, 3.1 is looking very good so far. But what is with the Bridge... can't Adobe make an image browser that isn't a bloated whale? Yes it performs a lot better than it did... but compared to other Raw tools, it's not happening, (photographer) workflow-wise I'm not sure it's a winner. The Bridge is by far the weakest link in Adobe's raw workflow imo.

While the free version of RSE isn't perfect, they really do seem to have a much better overall approach when it comes to ranking/viewing/sorting images, performance and workflow.

Now back to the whale... err Bridge (reminds me of Finding Nemo, maybe I'm just lacking fluency in whale-speak), I'm looking for a purdy color pic to print.

Pete, I agree with you on CS2 and Bridge being bloated! These new apps are VERY bloated!! I have a P4 2Ghz Win2K box with 1GB of RAM. CS2 and Bridge take FOREVER to load. I feel like I now need a faster machine. I do like the workflow in Bridge. I'm not sure I like haveing to jump back and forth between 3 apps now (Bridge, Camera Raw, & Photoshop)to execute my workflow. I liked how the file browser was integrtated into the previous version, CS.

I hear ya Jeff. Why we need to have a 'Big Blue' PC to run an image browser adequately is beyond me. The whole digital workflow is there for Adobe to grab - they should've nailed it already.

I suggest to look at the official bridge forum. The engineers are working on updates (1.01 is already available)

Having a large number of fonts did slow bridge. Also creating a new shortcut on the desktop helps. (see the bridge FAQ)

Thanks for the excellent info, Pete

Thanks sPECtre, I'll check out the Bridge forum when I get a chance and get the update too.

I am liking the new Camera Raw, and some of the new funcitionality in the Bridge... just not how the latter performs, especially compared to other stuff out there.

So far, Google's Picasa 2 is the most efficient way I've found to browse quickly through my photography. Adobe's PS Browser (even in CS2) is just too slow and cumbersome.

I tend to do the initial browsing/sorting of images using IMatch - might as well since I'm there cataloging the files anyway.
