Where to? matte ink and profiles.

I can't turn to the dark side, the world of non matte papers, without putting up a fight. I'm ordering matte black ink first thing in the morning. I have a couple of matte papers I just have to try with matte black ink, they are too beautiful not too.

It's a tricky decision IMO, the choice of stock can really influence people's response to an image.

I'll also be getting a few profiles made by Jeremy Daalder of ImageScience in Melbourne for the Velvety and a couple of matte papers I have here, the latter once I have the matte ink.

Pete,

I'm not sure if this works for the 4800, but you could try the so-called "South African Ink Change Method" to switch between PK and MK:

http://www.gicleemedia.com.au/faq-8.htm

I haven't tried it myself but intuitively it sounds like the obvious way to do it.

Thanks Stephen, I'd read about that elsewhere, Inkjetart maybe?

The first time around I think I'll do the black ink change by the book to see how it all works.

Does the ink change method as outline by EPSON clear out and recharge any of the inks other then the PK or MK? If not then the "South African Method" gains you nothing other then making an already complicated operation even more complicated.

BTW great Blog. Have learned a lot. Can't wait till my 4800 arrives.

Thanks Mike

Thanks Mike.

The process for changing the inks is outlined in this post. The process involves inserting dummy cartridges for the other three carts on that side so as to cap them. The original carts are reinserted at the end of the process. According to Epson only the black line is flushed, costing you ~20ml.

Anyways - I'm just about to swap the inks now. Just squeezing out the last few prints using Photo Black.

Hey Pete,

Thanks for including Jeremy's ImageScience link. I'm so excited to find s/o offering custom profiles for only $75. :-)
Previously, I've only seen them offered at $250.

Brad

No worries Brad. Jeremy's stocks some great papers too, at good prices.
