Catching up

Thanks to everyone who has visited and posted comments and/or emailed me in the last few days. Apologies in advance for the delay in replying, I'm working my way through them.

I'm busy this week finishing off renovations to our house and am only online in the evenings.

I don't know where to put this, so I'm just sticking it here...

With your considerable number of tests on the 4800, personal and subjective as those test may be, you are still the 'Man' when it comes to this printer. I am very appreciative of your efforts.

Having said that, what settings have you decided to go with for both color and B&W?

- 1440/2880
- High Speed
- Finest Detail
- anything else?

Thanks!

Pete,

Do your renovations include an elevator to the loft, or at least stairs?

Blog still full of usefull info. Great job!

Hi Mike yeah definitely doing something with access to the attic! Not really enough room for set of stairs unfortunately, but maybe proper fold down attic ladder/steps - that would be a huge upgrade :)

I was surprised at the weight and size of the 4800 - even having seen 4000's. Picking one up yourself and trying to get it into the attic is a different thing vs looking at em. I considered moving my work area downstairs, but the cost was too much - esp in addition to the printer.

Come on Pete, you almost had a 'loft' there. Somehow an attic just isn't the same...

Anyway - I would also like to thank Pete for his insight and early thoughts, which lead me to purchase a 4800 myself.

The B&W's are stunning! I had tried a dedicated printer for this but because I don't print B&W frequently enough it seemed I was always dealing with clogs (a 960 & a 1520 with MIS QT inks).

I think this printer easily sets the new "State of the Art" as far as B&W goes and challenges anything I've seen in the color dept.

Note that when I print something I think of it as going under glass, so gloss differential isn't really an issue for me, but as Pete has noted, it's only there at angles where the print isn't viewable anyway so in my mind its a non issue.

Glad to hear you are happy with the 4800!

I agree, B&W is great and I'm liking its color performance more and more as I print a wider range of images I know well.
