Print permanence
Print permanence looks like it will be back in the spotlight very soon (had it ever left?). Epson will be making it clear - print on Epson paper using Epson inks and they'll stand behind whatever claims they make regarding permanence (which is done for them by Wilhelm). Use any other paper, any other ink on an Epson machine and you haven't got a leg to stand on regarding permanence if things go pear shaped.
Epson have already had situations where vendors i.e. print shops, are running non Epson papers (often to save $), and their customers have had trouble with prints and have taken action against the print shop, which has in turn tried to take action against Epson.
Currently there are very few industry standards regarding testing permanence and some of the claims being made by other companies (regarding mixing and matching their papers with other inks) are not accurate, or at least comparable to Wilhelm - in as much as the light levels used in their testing is far lower, yielding more impressive claims regarding longevity.
I really hope the issue of permanence gets sorted out - it's the missing piece in the inkjet story.

After initial disappointment with Enhanced Matte (I bought it for just proofing) I'm finding it's not a bad paper at all ... for some uses. I don't think it has anywhere near enough punch for typical colour images, but a reproduction I did of an artist mate's work in ink and pencil come out looking very nice. I've also just done my first B&W (with Advanced B&W Photo - Warm/Darker) and was blown away with the quality. A frame-able first print! Let me state that my preference has always been for Platinum and fibre-based silver over RC. Anyway, I'm hoping the Elegance works out for colour. If so, I'll be sticking with MK for everything.

I would comment more however your blogging software (by google?) won't accept any of the alias' I use elsewhere and I'm not inclined to create another just for this.
I just ordered a 4800 and greatly appreciate your blog and the info you have provided.
And BTW - you really are the #1 listing on a google search for Epson 4800...
Thanks again,

ksj, sorry about the limitations re comments. I'm just using Blogger for this ATM. Usually I'd build my own application, it's part of what I do outside of Photography, but I didn't have the time and wanted to get something up quickly on the 4800. Plus I'd never used something like Blogger so that's been interesting too.
The Google result is very cool while it lasts. I've been watching the server stats closely since the blog has been up, it's been very interesting to see exactly where the traffic is coming from. Traffic from Google is up there that's for sure.
I hope to build my own blog app in the next few weeks and port all the data here over to it.
