Firmware update

Epson have posted firmware updates for the 4800, to be installed via the LFP Remote Panel.

I'll be updating my driver and firmware today - have been busy the last week with a few jobs as well as preparing my first set of prints on canvas.

Pete,

Thanks MUCH for your work in documenting your experience with the 4800! I am to receive my own 4800 tomorrow (I hope...).

You mentioned the glitch in installing the driver in XP (which I use). When I receive my machine, do you recommend going straight away to installing the newest/updated driver from the Epson site, or will I need to first install the original driver that comes with the CD in the box?

Thanks!

(PS...I originally posted this today in relation to a much earlier entry of yours, but I thought it would actually be more appropriate here)

from the history file included in the download:

Enhancements included in this version are:
• Allows users to feed and print Premium Glossy Photo Paper from the paper tray. The forbidden media error is no longer
displayed. The firmware has to be used in conjunction with the latest driver( 5.52 for Windows and 2.33 for Mac).

Install the CD first. It contains other stuff too, in particular the remote panel "feature", basically a printer utility but I can't remember the exact naming of it. Anyway, it is necessary for upgrading firmware and much more.

also the driver includes all the profiles buried (on a Mac at least) inside it---don't know if the upgrade does or not. and there is an option to install additional drivers too.

and the comment just above about upgrade features refers to the new firmware, though it doesn't say it.

Hi Sotexbill, apologies for the delay in replying. Re the driver you can download what you need from Epson, the LFP Remote Panel etc - but it's probably a little easier initially just to let the install on the CD run so everything is there and update as needed afterwards, which would just be the driver and firmware.

Regarding the XP glitch (and this may be wrong as it was very early in the piece) it was suggested to run the installer twice to get around it.

It's also probably a good idea to disable all you AV and anti-spyware before the install. I think Microsoft Antispyware interfered with my first several efforts.

Hi All,
I received my 4800 yesterday and first impression was not real good. The Black Black (K) did not print. I ran the utility in auto maode and lo and behold no black black. It autodetected that and then printed all three blacks. However, the deepenst black is around 40 on a step wedge and is no where as dark as my R1800. Photos though appear ok. More testing tomorrow...
