0088 Update

I'm waiting to hear from a business called Electronflow, apparently they handle repairs to Epson Pro printers. While the repair itself - which everyone seems to agree is a dead/faulty printer battery - is under warranty I wil need to pay travel time for the tech. A bummer, but cheaper in the scheme of things than getting the printer down from the attic and driving down to Melbourne twice, and then getting the printer back up here.

Otherwise things are cruising along very nicely. I had a commercial print run of cards done last week, the end products were very close to the 4800 proof I'd supplied at the start - a relief and very cool. The sound of those large Heidelberg presses as they fire up is great, like a modern steam train!

Hopefully should hear from Electronflow in the next few working days and work out a day for the repair.

No way I would accept to pay anything for a warranty repair. HP is offering world wide printer swap next business day free of charge for the Designjets, I would insist in Epson to handle this free of charge, too.

I agree totally with the previoius poster - a warranty is a warranty - but then I've had very bad experiences with Epson's service/warranty before. I ended up having to threaten Epson with suing them several years ago if they didn't replace my printer that had been back and forth to the service folks in Ohio three times for a month and a half - and never gotten fixed - took a couple of weeks but eventually they decided it would be much cheaper for them to replace the printer than the bad publicity they would get from a suit - and the postings I told them I would do on the net.
To expect YOU to pay for the techs travel time is offensive to say the least! A faulty printer is their responsibility to fix!
Not too long ago a friend bought a new 1280 - arrived faulty - Epson wanted to replace it with a reconditioned printer - took three days before Epson agreed to replace it with a new.
Unfortunately it seems that Epson does not deal with "Honor" like many large companies these days

Have you casually mentioned how much exposure this blog has had?

I also live in Ohio.

I just bought a 4800 from a dealer in Cleveland.

When I un-packed the paper tray, a corner on the tray cover was broken. I wasn't going to impair the performance of the printer, but I did pay full, price for a NEW printer.

So, I called Epson and told them the problem. The gentleman took my info and said he'd send out a new paper tray to me. I mentioned I could send a few jpgs of the damage and he said that would be good.

I e-mailed to jpgs to him and he replied that a new tray was on its's way.

Here is his reply:

Hi Scott,

Thanks for send the pictures. I have created an order for a new paper tray and you should get it soon.

So far, I think Epson provides good service.

I do think it's bs that you have to pay someone travel expences because a faulty battery was installed. It's Epson's fault, not yours.

Scott
