4800 main board replaced
I got a surprise this morning when the techs from Electronflow called saying they were only minutes away and asking how to find my place! Lucky for them I was in, as no-one had called to let me know they were coming today.
The tech's were here in the attic most of the morning - very cosy, and not quite the office space they typically find a 4800 inhabiting :)
The battery tested fine so they ended up replacing the main board in the printer which meant backing up the printer data beforehand. Interesting stuff to watch - complete with the usual problems of procedures going astray because of missing steps in the manual. Here's a pic of the main board, battery at the top left:

Fingers crossed that should be it regarding the 0088 code, will find out for sure tomorrow when the printer starts up.
As for how much this warranty repair will cost me I'll have to wait and see what arrives in the mail. In the mean time I'll be contacting Epson and seeing what if anything can be done about the cost.

Ah, it is not everyday that we see a 4800 mainboard. Less common than a macmini opening guide...
Sort of Porn for Geeks...
I hope that the issue will be resolved and that Epson will be comprehensive. (Did you tell them about your blog? they should sponsor you instead!)

I'm regretting not taking more shots of the main board now! :p
I'm waiting to see how the whole repair thing goes - so far everyone has been helpful, just that it hasn't been fixed.
