0088 Update

I've been working with Epson over the last few weeks on the 0088 problem. No solution as of yet but tech's are coming up again early next week to take a look at the printer and install older firmware (which LFP does not allow).

Scott I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought that at times. It's certainly dragged on, but that in part has been my fault - I've been in and out a lot lately.

Certainly if I wasn't able to print I would have been screaming blue murder from the moment the problem started - and apparently that is what should happen when this code is displayed, you shouldn't be able to print. But I can print - but the 0088 issue needs to resolved.

I think part of it is Epson would like to be reasonably sure if they replace the printer the problem won't happen again due to a cause outside of the printer. Personally I think that is highly unlikely - I think the gremlin is in the printer somewhere - but am doing things like having the power company install a logging device in the house to record the power quality.

But I'll give Epson this - the customer service (out of Melbourne) I've received from the tech support people has been great. They are certainly interested in resolving the problem.

I should add tho - I'd like to be alive, or at least have a significant portion of the printer warrantly period left when it is resolved :)

Have you had, recently, and problems with other electronic items in your home?

And, I'm assuming you have that 4800 plugged into a good surge protector, no?

Hi Scott - no, no dramas in with any electronic equipment in all the years we've been here, including the last couple of months.

All my important equipment - printer, PC etc are on a surge board.

That's not to say the power here is great, but I doubt it's the cause and afaik the Epson tech thinks the same - it's something that needs to be crossed off the list and more info about the power here will be interesting anyway.
